Current Positions:

Junior and Intermediate analyst positions listed here are available immediately at our St. Laurent location in Ottawa, and our Calgary, AB location.

Junior Analyst - Chemistry 

The Junior Analyst is responsible for performing analyses within a discrete section of the laboratory (i.e. Organic division, Inorganic division or Microbiology division).  This involves sample analysis, instrument calibration, standards/reagent preparation according to established methods and QC protocols and assistance on research projects under the direct supervision of the Senior Analyst and/or Lab Director.

 The Junior Analyst job description applies to full-time entry level positions as well as part-time summer students or co-op students from recognized technical programs such as biochemical, microbiology, chemistry and environmental studies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that all tests are performed according to the established in-house protocols
  • Performing analyses and preparation of lab standards and reagents for both routine and research related analyses
  • Performing analysis QC
  • Assist in collating and tabulating data from experimental scientific research
  • May be responsible for requisitioning supplies

Qualifications:

B.Sc. or Chemical/Biology/Biochemistry Technology Diploma or equivalent - laboratory specific.

Individuals applying for part-time positions such as summer or co-op students must be enrolled in a recognized technical program such as biochemical, microbiology, chemistry or environmental studies.  Related lab experience is not essential but would be considered beneficial.

Intermediate Analyst - Chemistry 

The Intermediate Analyst is responsible for coordinating and performing analyses within a discrete section of the laboratory (i.e. Organic division, Inorganic division or Microbiology division).  This involves sample analysis according to established methods and QC protocols as well as assisting in scientific research.  The Intermediate Analyst may also participate in method development and validation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that all tests are performed according to the established in-house protocols
  • Responsible for coordinating and performing analyses and preparation of lab standards and reagents
  • Checking and verification of QC data
  • In conjuction with the Senior Analyst, monitoring the workload status on an on-going basis
  • Responsible for requisitioning supplies
  • Assistance in scientific research

Qualifications:

B.Sc. or Chemical/Biology/Biochemistry Technology Diploma, section specific, with two years of relevant experience.

Future Positions:

  

Client Service Reprsentative  

The Client Service Representative is to serve as the frontline liaison between clients and lab operations. Communicate with clients to assist or direct all inquiries.  

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Communicate with clients to assist with or direct all inquiries
  • Work in conjunction wtih Sample Management and Account Managers to ensure client satisfaction
  • Answering incoming calls and greeting client walk-ins
  • Receive environmental samples from walk-in clients and couriers including sample log in
  • Various general office and administrative tasks
  • Perform other tasks as assigned or dictated by position.

Qualifications:

Minimum High School.  Service and or Lab experience is not essential but would be considered beneficial.

Intermediate Microbiologist

The Intermediate Microbiologist is responsible for performing daily tasks within the Microbiology/IAQ division.  This involves following the directions of the Senior Microbiologist and following established methods and QA/QC protocols.  The Intermediate Microbiologist may also assist in research projects under the supervision of the Senior Microbiologist.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Following documented microbial testing procedures and SOPs for the Microbiology department
  • Participation in the strict maintenance of the QA/QC program
  • Perform analysis including culturable microbial isolation, including media and incubation selection, from matrices such as building materials, swabs and air (RCS and Anderson).
  • Prepare and analyse contaminated building materials by mounting scrapings in mycological stains followed by microscopic examination
  • Identify fungal spores by microscopic examination of Zefon Air-O-Cell cassette slides and surface tape preparations
  • Perform culturing and Gram staining of bacteria
  • Perform endotoxin analyses

Training:

Microbiology:  Intermediate Analysts that can perform spore trap analysis or direct examination of fungal propagules have performed twelve months of on-the-job training under the supervision of a qualified analyst or supervisor.  During this time, all analyses are verified by the supervising analyst. 

Qualifications:

Minimum B.Sc. in Biology or Microbiology and one year related lab experience.    


Microbiology Technician (Laboratory Analyst) 

The Microbiology Technician is responsible for performing daily tasks within the Microbiology/IAQ division.  This involves following the directions of the Senior Microbiologist and following established methods and QA/QC protocols. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Following documented testing procedures and SOPs for the Microbiology department
  • Participation in the strict maintenance of the QA/QC program
  • Assist in conducting biological, microbiological and biochemical laboratory analyses
  • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of data and preparation of analytical reports

Training:

Microbiology:  On-the-job training is provided for six months under the supervision of a qualified analyst or supervisor.  During this time all analyses are verified by the supervising analyst.

Qualifications: 

Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training, specialization in microbiology or mycology and relevant experience will be an asset.


Asbestos Analyst

Paracel has positions available for a Microbiology Technician, Asbestos Analyst, for any of our locations currently with plans on expansion into Southern Ontario.

Primary responsibilities include analysis of asbestos by PLM, following the established methods and QA/QC protocols, analysis and interpretation of data and preparation of analytical reports.  Additional duties may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to follow documented testing procedures and SOPs
  • Participation in strict maintenance of the QA/QC program
  • Applicants must posess good organizational, computer and communication skills
  • Applicants must be able to work independently, efficiently multi-task and prioritize responsibilities

Completion of college diploma course, CEGEP/Vocational or other technical training related to microbiology or toxicology.  Experience in PLM analysis of asbestos in various matrices is required; minimum of 2 years would be an asset.
